Meet Rula

Hey there! Make yourself feel at home. I just brewed a fresh pot of coffee and I have hot water ready for tea. Take your pick. It's all made with fresh spring water pumped from my own backyard. I'm a caffeine addict but if you prefer, I have fresh, organic mint growing right outside the kitchen. Sweet mint tea was one of my favorite childhood treats, along with books and quiet time to write poetry at sunset. Yes, I really did that. Sunset and all. I was a romantic even as a kid. They say life comes full circle.

Leaving the bustling burbs and an established career for life near the base of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains was the best decision ever. Exploring the outdoors and connecting with nature was in important part of my childhood and something I didn't want my three boys to miss out on. Sure they still have their high tech games, but I think their life is more balanced out here. I know mine is...lovely, serene moments with the breeze in the trees...interspersed with the abrupt, heart-stopping raucous of my labradoodles going ballistic at the sight of the sadistic squirrel who parades along the fence outside the patio door, same time everyday, and grins at them (I'm pretty sure there's grinning involved). Sigh. Zany dogs, witty wildlife and three boys (okay, four with hubby)...catching onto why I'm a caffeine addict?

In any case, life couldn't be better. I've always been a mommy, naturalist and writer at heart. Now that I'm writing for Harlequin Heartwarming, my heart truly is home.

I'm thrilled that A Heartwarming Christmas, a holiday anthology that includes my novella, The Gingerbird House, hit the USA Today Bestseller List, Indie Bestseller List and the Amazon Bestseller List! Also, The Promise of Rain (my 2014 debut and first book in the 'From Kenya, with Love' series) is a 2014 National Reader's Choice Award winner for Best First Book (it was a double finalist), 2015 HOLT Medallion Award of Merit winner, a 2015 Golden Quill Award Runner Up and a 2015 Book Buyers Best Third Place recipient! The second book in the series, After the Silence, is both a 2016 Published Maggie Award of Excellence and Aspen Gold finalist and book 5 in the series, The Twin Test, is a 2018 National Reader's Choice Award finalist for Contemporary Series. The other books in the 6 book series, Through the Storm, Every Serengeti Sunrise and The Marine's Return, have all garnished rave reviews. My short story, The Sweetheart Tree, which is part of the A Heartwarming Thanksgiving anthology by Harlequin Heartwarming, is also tied to the series. I hope you enjoy them all!

My second series for Harlequin Heartwarming, 'Turtleback Beach', kicks off June 2019 with Almost a Bride. Check out my book page for links and sign up for my newsletter for updates!
